The winning photograph (Just click on the red arrow to play the song)
Here are the reasons of our choice :
– The image fits the song: the man is mysterious but inspires confidence. He emerges from manhood.
– The picture leaves room for imagination.
– Composition, contrasts, atmosphere are great.
– The editing with the two red analog meters and the central equalizer puts us into a musical context.
INTERVIEW | P: Pierre M: Marc
P: Marc, could you tell us about this winning photograph?
M: The picture submitted to the Challenge was taken (like most of my pictures) against the light in the entrance of a tunnel.
Once I have spotted the place, I wait quietly for a prey. I have some interesting pictures of this place …
The silhouette of this man goes quite well (in my opinion) with the music.
I love to take photographs under extreme lights such as those in subways.

P: What is your relationship to music ? why do you do a link between photo and Music on Instagram?
M: I cannot live without music. Every moment of my life has its own musical imprint. I am surrounded by many people working in this environment (musicians, producers, critics). Music is my passion.
To dress a photo with a sound allows you to bring additional informations, a mood, a color,… A picture that seems to be a little bit rough at first sight may be defused thanks to music. Music can also give more substance to a photo. In most cases, the sound track indicated below my image posted on Instagram is the one I was listening to when I took the photograph. Yes! Before being a camera and possibly a phone, my Iphone is especially an iPod.

P: What are your musical tastes ?
M: My musical tastes are extremely varied. Before the music it is rather the sounds that make me vibrate. To make it simple, indie music and electronic music are my favorites. I often revisit the rich period of the 80’s.
P: You have a special editing touch. Does that come from your professional activity? Can you tell us about your relationship to images in general ?
M: I work in Brussels in the field of media advertising.
I have been interested in photography as a hobby since I was 20. My equipment has evolved according to my means. My favorite subjects have always been urban shots, a few abandoned places or more graphic details.
The iPhone has disrupt the field of photography. Having a camera always with you creates new opportunities!
P: Music aside, where do you find inspiration ?
M: My inspirations are many. I’m a big fan of Martin Paar and of course everything related to street photography. There are many photographers that I admire on Instagram too!

P: What are your favorite apps for shooting and editing ?
M: I love to try new things, but finally I always use the same applications.
Hipstamatic most often, ProCamera, and lately 645PRO + Camera for shooting. For post-production, I use Photogene ², Filterstorm, Image Blender, Afterfocus and Photoshop Express.
I often edit my photos by assembling several frames whether for light work or to incorporate other elements. The ubiquitous square format in IG is a standing invitation to creativity.
P: Thank you Marc, and congrats !
